Chapter Twenty-One
I sat at a table in a restaurant with open-air seating, talking with Oztarr and Lytrix about what my next move should be.
The sun was almost blinding as it reflected off the waters. It was another perfect day in Atlantis, just like all the others. The people around me were laughing and smiling, enjoying each otherâs company. It was such a different scene from what I experienced back home with people typically too busy to give a shit about their neighbor.
The mood at our table was markedly different from the rest though. I was frustrated and slightly angry at what I had gone through up to that point.
After risking my life and taking a beating in the East Forest, I still was stuck not being able to fix the Infinity Loop because I didnât have permission to go up the damn mountain to get the crystal.
âI know youâre frustrated right now,â Oztarr said. âBut if Atlas tells you that he canât approve, you have to listen to him.â
âI think itâs ridiculous,â I said. âHeâs not just telling me that I canât do it. Heâs giving me a life sentence to stay here.â
âSo, whatâs wrong with that?â Oztarr asked.
I flashed a glance to Lytrix. Her eyes agreed with me, even if she wasnât admitting it out loud.
I shrugged my shoulders. âLook, I think Atlantis is great, but itâs not my home. Even if it seems like itâs perfect on the surface, I need to at least have the option to go home if I want to. I have people there who need me. If Iâm here because Iâm forced to be, that makes this place a prison, rather than a home.â
Lytrix nodded. âI agree. Even if Atlantis is the greatest place on Earth, Tyler deserves the ability to go home if he wishes.â
Oztarr almost seemed bothered by this argument. Obviously, he felt that Atlantis was the perfect place to live. But I held my ground. I knew that living in Atlantis was perfect for now, but there was a big difference between staying here a few days and living here permanently. I needed the option to leave.
A server came by and dropped off a couple of plates of food. Sitting in front of me was a plate of steamed fish, fresh from the water, along with a heavenly salad. The meal was a reminder of how great things could be if I lived in Atlantis. I continued to struggle with the idea. On the one hand, everything I ever wanted was here. On the other, it still wasnât my home.
âI bet you canât get food this good at home,â Oztarr said. âIt really is the perfect city.â
âSo then why am I being forced to stay here?â I asked. âAfter all, if itâs so perfect here all the time, then nobody should be worried about me leaving.â
âItâs not that anyone wants to force you to stay here,â Lytrix said. âAtlas thinks you would be putting yourself in danger by climbing the mountain while we are in the middle of a war with the Athenians.
